Was just talking to a friend about digital detoxes and how ridiculous it feels when people announce via social how they’re taking a break from social media to rest and recharge and decrease their screen usage. It comes across as disingenuous and “cringe” and almost egotistical when we stumble across these posts because we know how quickly the Internet moves on to the next thing, so it’s interesting how we feel a deep need to telegraph and perform these actions to the world. Ultimately, I think the point is that no one really cares enough about someone taking a break from posting online and making the post somehow foreshadows a failed attempt at successfully detoxing from social because that person is still online even as they press publish on their commitment to take a break. Very weird.
One's ability to "detox" and "survive" offline has become something of weird "flex." That says a lot about our moment. If it wasn't a flex, we'd see more people log off without making it a post in itself.

About the only thing cringier is the final farewell post when making a big stink about quitting a platform
...Yet still continue to use it...
